Uniform for a skinny child

I ordered some school uniform in the correct length for dd, but it is so wide you could quite comfortably fit 2 of her in it. This is m&s uniform.

Is this a sign of the times that uniforms are made to cater for such wide children? Are there any slim fit uniforms available ?

I get school trousers for my tall skinny kids from Next, they do slim fit.

M&S is wide for boys , too.

Second Next slim fit. A lot of their uniform is better quality than M&S, as well.

I find nearly all clothes are made for fat kids especially asda. H and m are great normally but not for uniform.

I have two beanpole children, and I find Sainsbury's best for trousers if she wants to wear those, though still not perfect. The waists have lots of adjustability, though inevitably they start the year ruched up like a sack! I have no idea for dresses, but perhaps the skirts at Sainsbury's are the same.

John Lewis girls school trousers are slim fit and long in the leg (can be turned up).
M&S do adjustable waist skirts.

M&S do a slim fit skirt online only. And their Jersey pinny is much more slim fit than the rest.
Otherwise, Next and Sainsbury are slimmer fit.

I sew the waist band on tights smaller as that's the only way.

Dd wore pinafores in ks1 and foundation as they were more comfy.

Most shops so skinny fit. My kids have worn BHS, Next and M&S versions.

My two are both skinny, try John Lewis.

I also buy Next slim fit.

Next here as well. The only place I can get any clothes that fit my slim DS are either from there or H&M. Supermarket uniforms drown him, even the 'slim fit' ones from Asda.

My view on Next versus M&S slim fit

M&S is slimmer. And lower cut on the waist. DS wears his trews on his hips and Next came up to his armpits. Slim enough but not as slim

M&S sell out of their slim fit fast. So buy lots and buy the next size up.

John Lewis tights are good but no way are their pinnies or trousers (even slim fit) actually slim. Still enormous on my children.

YY to clown trousers! DS wears M&S non school trousers or girls jeans from H&M as they are much slimmer cut than the boys. My DC have no arse though. And slim straight hips. Everything falls down. I hate buying new pants, knickers, trousers, tights, leggings.

If you're after pinafores M&S do a longer length which means you can buy a smaller size but they won't be too short.

BhS extra long slim fit was good (it meant you could buy e.g. age 7 extra long slim fit for a normal height but very slim 9 or 10 year old, as they were up to 10cm longer in the leg for the same waist size and slim proportions...).

We will miss BhS - though tbh DS had just grown out of the final size (he needs 26" waist, 36" inside leg school trousers).

Consider buying extra-tall in M&S for slim kids, and go down in age

Yep, Next slim fit (on the slimmest adjustment!). I find they are ok when passed down for my standard sized younger son on the biggest adjustment.

Ive just bought uniform from M&S and they do skinny fit trousers and shirts and so I'm sure they do the same for girls. DS1 is very skinny and the slim fit stuff is fine for him.
