School just rang me at work to say DD has a stiff neck

I asked if they wanted me to collect her, they said no, they just wanted me to be aware that she had been complaining of a stiff neck all day, no other symptoms. Seems odd to me, she's only got another 3/4 hour there before pick up. Is this quite a usual thing to inform parents.

My school does this too - I think it's bcause the teacher is likely to forget in the general rush and melee that is home time !!!

Also I guess stiff neck could be indicator of something serious so they would want to be sure you knew - I'd be grateful tbh !

i dont know its all getting very baffling with schools

I guess it's because stiff neck is one of the potential indicators of meningitis, so that if she came home and developed any of the others you'd know about the stiff neck and be more inclined to take the other stuff seriously. This way they know you know, and (for the litigiously-minded) they have a record that they told you.

schools normally only get in touch if they have a concern for the child and as lemonaid said some stuff they take more seriously. hope you are on your way sonn.

Says meningitis possibility to me - but it's probably nothing. Just need to keep an eye out.

I'd much rather the school told me things like that than kept it from me!
