How to make Viking longship model for homework

Has anyone done this for a school project? No idea where to start and would be grateful for any ideas. It's homework for a dyspraxic 10yo who isn't remotely crafty but I have a 9yo who will be happy to help.

Use a juice carton. We did one when DD was 6/7 and it was pretty easy. Something like this madebytoya.wordpress.com/2014/04/29/juice-carton-viking-longboat/

How about using a 2 litre pop bottle. Cut off a long side to make a boat shape. Paint brown or cover with paper. Make a big sail from paper and stick into a blob of blue tac to make it stand up in the bottom of the boat. Stick little carboard circles along the sides for shields and use straws for oars.

Or that ^ which looks better than my idea!

Google it. There's a template you can print out. We are doing it too

How about using modelling clay?

Tiger and Hobbycraft sell it. And it's quite cheap.

Or follow my DS who picked charred twigs from our bonfire site, stuck them onto a bread board and wrote a label explaining that this was all that was left after the Viking funeral!

It go with Lego - or a note saying the homework was unable to be completed.

We had to do this in P3. we did a tetra pak carton with paddles on tooth picks stuck in it. Others followed the plastic bottle guide. One brilliant mum made a chocolate cake one!! If your son is not interested, do the thing you find easiest!

We used a 12 egg eggbox, then we got some wooden kebab skews and stuck them through to make oars (with bits of paper on the end, and one for a mast in the middle. I think a bit of blue tack came in handy, or sellotape, but egg boxes are easy to paint.

Please note that I am crap at art so was not much help !!

Thanks all. My favourite suggestion is the poster who suggested the note saying homework unable to be completed . I dream of having the balls to write that!

Cake sounds good.

We've done these out of juice cartons cut in half. Use layered masking tape to make the sides stronger as well as make the sides look like long wooden planks; you can colour it brown with a crayon.
