How are you celebrating the end of SATs?

Dd has worked really hard this year. We had her favourite meal on Monday (also dd2's least favourite so can't repeat). Might get her some chocolate. Are you doing anything fun with your dc?

There's a dessert parlour opened near us. I think we'll go there for a treat on Thursday after school. It's two tests today, so I've been asked for scrambled eggs for breakfast-it's the breakfast of champions apparently!

School has organised a full day out at the park on Friday (first sensible thing they've done all year!!) DD has been invited for a sleepover Friday. So personally, I will be celebrating with a large glass of wine and a peaceful house

I think I will offer her choice of takeaway. (Fish and chips, Chinese or pizza).

School are laying on bacon butties of Friday morning too.

Off out to dinner at requested restaurant. Neither we nor the school have made a big thing of them but DD is never one to turn down sausages and mash here ;-)

Don't SATS finish on Friday rather than Thursday? Or does it depend which area of the country you're in?

We are going out for a Chinese to celebrate the end of SATs and to wish my eldest good luck with his GCSEs that start next week. DS called it our final supper

SATS finish with one paper tomorrow, Sinking. Should be the same wherever you are.

(there may be a few children who end up taking them late due to illness, so content of papers shouldn't be shared until the 20th, but the vast majority will be done by lunchtime tomorrow)

We have two Science papers on the Friday, courtesy of the school so no celebrating here until Saturday!

Actually, now I've read the info from school properly it looks as if dd3 and her cohort will be doing a science paper and a teacher-assessed writing piece on Friday. Not SATs, but ...

My dd had a sickness bug so was unable to go into school on mon and tues so did her maths test this morning followed by her 3 english tests and will have her final maths test in the morning.Friday they have a fun day and then we are going out for tea although not sure where yet.

We don't have much time to go out for a meal as they have swimming tonight and she's at a friend's house tomorrow. I think that I will get her a bar of chocolate and a bunch of flowers. It makes her feel grown up when she gets flowers. Might even splash out on a new swimming costume for her. Maybe we can get a takeaway at the weekend.

Will be pleased for her if she has done well but most proud of the effort she has put into them.

My DD school is doing the writing assessment tomorrow. So on Friday afternoon we are going to afternoon tea at the local garden centre with two of her friends and their mums. I booked it today and mentioned that is for 11 year old to celebrate the end of SATs. I cannot wait to see their faces. They set the table and bring out one of those cake plates ......

Maybe we should sign their souls over to the government to have the joy sucked out of them at birth. She talks in the article about her son not being aware of sitting SATs, that's because he is 9 so he only sat KS1 tests, and when he did them there was no Mrs Trunchball character patrolling around so they didn't need to cover all of the wall displays. We didn't do anything after ks1 sats because they didn't know that they were doing them. Let's hope the schools crack the whip behind them and get back to work tomorrow.

Yes, I liked that bit too. That was perfectly possible until she decreed we had to cover displays, take everyday maths equipment away, escort them to the toilet and frisk them for phones! Cheers, Nicky!

Whoops! We had a fun afternoon with popcorn and the like at school. Silly me for missing Nicky Morgan's instructions. The children have been brilliant so I'll do exactly as I see fit with them.

Personally, I celebrated with a very large glass of wine! Year 6 teacher with a day off today!!

Oh her science experiment is working, she now has green tinged and red tinged flowers, although not blue yet. She has really missed science, They have pushed Maths and English so much that science was squeezed out. One silver lining is that she does now seem really secure in her maths and English, but she is quite able and has had a great teacher this year. I know that for many SATs just aren't an appropriate assessment of their skills and strengths.

How fab to hear about your DD getting straight onto a fun experiment shouldwestayorshouldwego! It's good to hear that the joy of learning for its own sake is still alive and well.

DD2 has been building her version of Kensuke's Kingdom island out of papier mache every afternoon, when each test was over. It's quite possibly the most sane thing that has happened in year 6. She's been totally disenchanted with school this year and it's a huge relief to see her covered in paint and actually enjoying something at school.

Exactly, learning through play is how they learn best. I teach adults and even for adults I try to make it fun. Her class teacher has been fab and they have had fun, but they would all have rather spent the past few months learning through play rather than going over SATs papers.
