end of Yr 2? Sometime in KS2? Secondary? Not including SATs, I guess.

How are SATs done, anyway? DS classroom is way too small to expect children not to peek at each other's paper, Are SATS normally done in assembly hall or somewhere like there to prevent cheating?

end-ish of Y2 - KS1 SATs - these are teacher assessments, so not exam conditions
end-ish of Y6 - KS2 SATs - these are exam-ish conditions
end-ish of Y9 - KS3 SATs - exam conditions
end-ish Y11 exam conditions for GCSEs

Extra rooms/spaces are often used from KS2 SATs onwards

Many schools do optional SATs in Y3, Y4 and Y5 which will be SAT type papers (government or commercial ones) aimed at that particular year group and are marked by teachers - results are not collated by the government.

HTH!
