Class teacher for 3 years running - possible?

DD has had the same teacher for last two years. She's heading into Year 6 next and I really don't want her having this same teacher for a various of reasons. I've heard whispering so on the grapevine that the current Year 6 teacher is leaving for another school and another whisper that my DD's teacher that'll be stepping into the role.

Would headteacher take into consideration that current pupils already have been taught by this teacher? Is that something a HT would bear in mind?

They would but it doesn't meant that it won't happen. Head will be looking at what is best for the school as a whole. They will prefer an experienced member of staff for yr 6 if possible.
I taught the same group of children for three years in a row. I have to say it wasn't my choice and I'm not sure it was the right decision. It's not ideal and you should go and express your concerns to the head. Think carefully about what you want to say. Work out why you think it would be best if they had a new face teaching them.

My son had the same teacher for three years running. They covered new material but I found the art projects and Christmas nativity very lacklustre. Does your school have specialist to add diversity?
His class size was 18 or less.

I taught the same children for 5 years! They started with me in Reception, then 1 and 2 ( a mixed age class) were taught by a different teacher in 3/4 and then back to me in 5/6. The majority of parents were more than happy with the situation, one parent took her children out of the school!

It's common in very small schools. A big reason why I avoid schools with less than 50 kids.

It's ok if they are a great, fair teacher. Not so ok if any favouritism creeps in.

In some schools it's policy for the teacher to move with the class especially with younger pupils to provide continuity. Our Polish parents are very surprised to discover that their children will have a different teacher each year as its common for children to have the same teacher throughout school.

I think for going into year 6 you could say that you are concerned that it will make the move to secondary harder as they haven't had yo adapt to a new teacher for 3 years.

Thing is though it is possible that there is a good reason for staying that they can't share with you. I know why a particular teacher moved up with the class at one point. The parents just thought that they'd got lucky, but I know it was much more to it than that.

My DS had this - so I moved school.

I did write to the HT to say I had concerns and she said 'she didn't take requests from parents'. (This was a 4 form entry. So he could have easily been moved)

Next day I took him out of school and she was very upset!

My DD has had the same teacher for two years and is also going into year 6. I'd be pleased if they kept their current teacher- aside from any personality conflicts, I find it has helped DD progress this year as the teacher knows exactly what she's capable of rather than having the new teacher go off end of year sats and DD having to demonstrate her capabilities.

In our school the teachers rotate classes between year groups every year or so so most have taught ever year at some point

It's awkward. This teacher has her favourites and DD feels marginalised. There are other issues that I can't go into either. I just don't want her teaching DD again. DD's attitude to school has crashed and burned and I feel this teacher is partly to blame

My DC's school is tiny and this is the norm. One teacher for years 1, 2 and 3 (all in together) and another for 4, 5 and 6. I have no choice though as no other schools.

I think it is healthier for teachers to change every year, because the problem of favouritism and suchlike. Though fortunately the only teacher that my dd had two years running was absolutely brilliant.
