Just had list of dates for school next year. Because Easter is so early (21st March) easter will not be in easter holidays. Good Friday and easter monday will be off then back to school until April 4th, then off for 2 weeks. Not sure about this one

oh next year oops I'll get me coat.

pointydog · 10/01/2007 17:47

Yep. That's usual round about me if Easter is ridiculous early.

What are you not sure about?

Posey · 10/01/2007 17:50

Not sure what they'll be doing here, but guess they will have an early Easter holiday. Several years ago when dd was in reception, they just had 4 weeks either side of the half term holiday as Easter was so early.

LIZS · 10/01/2007 17:53

Think ours will too. It is normal abroad though unless Easter falls late in April.

carlsberg · 10/01/2007 17:57

We break up on Thurs March 20th 2008 and school reopens on Monday April 7th which is a staff development day so the children go back on Tues April 8th.

whatkatydidntdo · 10/01/2007 17:59

yes its like that with us too.

Wonder what they will call the break cant really call it the Easter hols now can they

popsycal · 10/01/2007 18:00

This will happen al the time now
the easter holiday will always be fixed and if the bank holiday weekend does not fall in that fortnight, we get 2 extra days

popsycal · 10/01/2007 18:00

It is a new ruling from this year, but this year, easter DOES fall in the easter holidays
next year it does nto

think certain LEAs are trialing it

Pablothelittleredfox · 10/01/2007 19:19

How bizarre.

We break up on Thurs 20th and back on 7th April.

Pablothelittleredfox · 10/01/2007 19:20

ANd it doesn't matter so much that our term is then long from 7th April to end of July as we get 2 weeks off in May/June - always do.

SueW · 10/01/2007 19:23

Isn't this part of the 'six-term year' (as opposed to six-half-term year!)? But supposed to break the year into more manageable chunks?

coffeepot · 10/01/2007 20:03

We had this in 2005 last year - they had four days off for Easter (Good Friday, Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday) then went back to school for three and a half days before breaking up for a two week holiday - completely mad!

coffeepot · 10/01/2007 20:04

And you can imagine how much work they did in the 3 1/2 days!

popsycal · 10/01/2007 20:04

not part of the 6 term year here
we have 3 terms but have the new hols

blondehelen · 10/01/2007 21:10

we are only three terms too. First time of this. Little bit annoying if planning holiday in easter hols. means working parents have to take more holiday to cover school holidays if bank holidays are not covered. Can almost guarantee they will stick staff training day on after easter monday too!

Just realised that it means our school family ski trip is planned for that last week of term too - could be interesting as they are very anti kids being taken out for holidays !
