thats exactly what ive been worrying about, its so confusing!! my dd is going to turn 3 in october

MerlinsBeard · 09/01/2007 21:09

no, sept after his 3rd b'day for preschool. altho the school may let him in at the TERM after his 3rd birthday

Dottydot · 09/01/2007 21:10

I think it differs in different areas, but ds1's birthday is in December and he started playgroup - 2 mornings a week - in the September after he had turned 2, then the year after went to pre-school (5 mornings a week) and then the year after that started school. But other areas will do different things - we're in Stockport!

popsycal · 09/01/2007 21:10

they start the term after they are three in theory - so this time next year.

however, some places will only do one intake in september, so it will either be jan 2008 or sept 2008

JackieNo · 09/01/2007 21:10

I suspect different areas may have different rules - maybe just easiest to ask the school itself.

kittylette · 09/01/2007 21:10

so probably the march after hes 3

Look on the school's website (or the local education authorities)

Nursery Vouchers will (normally) start the term after their third birthday - so that is Jan for you Kittylette & for Prettymum

That doesn't normally have an effect on when they start nursery tho'

kittylette · 09/01/2007 21:11

oh jan not march

He will either start the nursery next jan or the sept of that year[so 2008]. Ds was 3 in october but doesnt start school nursery until this september. He does go to playgroup though and is now entitled to his place for free as it is the term after he turned 3.

popsycal · 09/01/2007 21:11

no
january 2008 or sept 2008 - the school wil tell you
it also depends on their numbers

kid · 09/01/2007 21:11

January or September after he is 3 if they do 2 intakes. If they do 1 intake, it will be September.

kittylette · 09/01/2007 21:11

vouchers?!

huh?

this really pickles my brain i cannot work it out - ds is 2 in april, when i can put his name down for nursery. so would he start in september 2008 when he is 3.5?

it is oversubscribed and i need to get him in with cm's ds who will be 3.1 in sept 08. neither of us can quite work it out. i know it seems ages away but actually is only a few months before i have to register.

popsycal · 09/01/2007 21:19

fishie - sept 2008 for you
my ds2 is the same
ring the school to ask when you put the name down - it varies from place to place

popsycal · 09/01/2007 21:19

on the form that you fill it , there is space to add extra comments where you will explain about CM's ds etc

kid · 09/01/2007 21:20

DS is aa April baby and he would have started nursery in the January, but as I worked within the main school, he started earlier. For schools that have 2 intakes for nursery and reception, the cut off date for September starters is the end of February.

fishie · 09/01/2007 21:34

thanks, that has made it clearer. o it makes my brain hurt, calendar and education years, not to mention financial ones.

popsycal hope your ds is still sleeping fine - mine is absolutely BELLOWING upstairs but dp is in charge [earplug emoticon].
