End of term film watching

DS doesn't like watching films. As in really upset and not wanting to go to school tomorrow as they've been told they can watch a film for the last day of term. I knew he always refused to watch films at home but didn't know he felt so strongly about it. WIB really annoying to ask the teacher if he can sit somewhere quiet and read a book instead? I'd usually say just lump it but this is supposed to be an end of term treat!

I'm sure the teacher will know how to proceed if your son is devastated when they turn the film on. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'd mention it to teacher for sure.

My DD is like this (y2). Her new school don't watch them but last one had them on nearly every Friday. She coloured or 'did jobs'...

Now I am really turning into a GF. It's Easter, not Christmas, why films on the last day of term? For pupils and staff surely it is just another working day.

My DS is on inset day tomorrow so was last day today..Ds worked as normal as far as I know..

In recpetion they put shrek on which he has and still hates ..So he went off and played...

Kanga, I doubt the teacher would know he was devastated. He hides very effectively.

Parrot, DS is year 2 as well, it's very reassuring to hear DS isn't the only one. at every Friday though. I think I will try to say something. I wish he had mentioned it earlier so we could give them some warning.

Elephant, DS agrees with you. Tell him he can do maths all afternoon and he'd be over the moon.

elephant I'm a teacher and was wondering the same thing! Its been a really short half term - one of the reasons for 'wind down' time at Xmas is because autumn is spool long and everyone is on their knees.

But as op says, its a treat. Perhaps the teacher promised it as a reward for hard work or good behaviour.

Op definitely say something if you dont think your son will tell his teacher. We aren't mind readers and theres no reason why he has to watch the film.

All sorted, she's going to find him something else to do poor boy, it must have really been on his mind, the first thing he said when he woke up this morning was 'you won't forget to talk to Mrs M will you'.

Don't know why but our kids are absolutely knackered - drooping all over the desks and can't be bothered to raise their hands for answers. Squabbling with each other and dissolving into tears at the drop of a hat. Loads are off ill. We were saying today that you expect it more at the end of a long term, but we're only on week 5 since half term. We don't break up until next Friday, and whilst I don't think we'll be running any DVDs, it's nonetheless going to be hard-going to expect anything marvellously academic by the end of the week.

I'm sorry to hear that Euphemia we finished teaching on Tuesday, followed by 2 days of Inset. My KS 3 students were not good either.

Our whole grade (6 classes, so not just mine!) were feral on the last day of term. I think it was the combination of expectation of Easter and chocolate. I ended up putting on a DVD, but students could also read, draw, create something on their iPads, or work on something else as long as it was quiet.
