Unusual request from school for trip?

DD (Ks1) has a compulsory PE event at a different school today. School has asked that the children are dropped off at the second school at 9.40am instead of their own!

This is really unusual, isn't it? I am fortunate that a friend's parent can take her today, but only by coincidence as this dad has a day off.

I haven't asked school what they'd do if we couldn't facilitate this (as I was able to manage). They are probably trying to save money by not needing a coach, which I understand. It is an illustration of how difficult things are for working parents at this particular school. No note to say that if we can't do this then school will walk them down or anything to that effect!

That's odd, what if your child was at breakfast club or being brought to school by a childminder?

Unless the schools are very close (so it is reasonable to think that families can get the DC to the other place using similar transport) then they'll have to have some sort of fallback. But they won't announce it, because they don't want to do it for more than the minimum necessary.

They're walking back to school afterwards - it's about a mile.

Odd.

If it's a mile, I guess staff (and or volunteers to make up numbers) will crocodile children over if they cannot be dropped.

I do think it's unusual, btw, because the school will still need to take a register and (depending on numbers in KS1) this can be a little chaotic.

Then again, crocodiling lots of pupils for 20+ mins in rush hour probably isn't top of anyone's fun to-do list.

Rural mile! Only rushing will be tractors.

I'm sure there's a contingency. Just odd!

This happens quite often at our school to Other schools or the leisure centre for our little ones.

Our school does this at Christmas.

But you have the choice - drop at school at 8:40 or at church in town at 9:00. It saves the walk for some parents/children who otherwise walk past the church on the way to school. Helps little legs.

I've had that with all the dc. People usually share lifts.

When I was at school we were dropped at the swimming pool once a week and walked back afterwards.
