'Hero' fancy dress ideas please

Yet another fancy dress thread. My son's school has asked the children to dress up as a hero for Children in Need day this Friday, preferably real-life heroes/heroines rather than superheroes. Does anyone have any ideas? I just can't think of anyone appropriate to dress as - Nelson Mandela, Gandhi and Stephen Hawking are out - it's difficult to think of anyone a 7yo can realistically dress up as.

Added to this, my son is diagnosed with Aspergers; it's not particularly severe at all but he's not that geared towards thinking about people in these terms. I asked him for ideas and he said 'The Sun' and 'St Nicholas'.

Is it just going to be a standard fireman outfit or can anyone think of anything. Help!

What about a sporting hero? Does he like any particular sports and have a strip/kit he could wear? Chris Hoy, Mo Farah, Andy Murray...

Do you have a pair of old 3D glasses from the cinema - push out the lenses, put him in sensible trousers and a jumper and send him in as Prof Steven Hawking?

Black polo neck and jeans = Steve Jobs?

(Whenever my kids' school have a careers day, where they have to dress up as a 'profession', I send them in to school in a superhero t-shirt and jeans and tell them to say they are game developers/software engineers etc if anyone asks.)

I did consider sports as he loves cricket. He doesn't have any cricket whites, but maybe I could dig some out.

I guess I'm just feeling a bit down on this whole fancy dress theme as I don't want to foist a hero or outfit on him, but he just can't get his head around the whole idea of a 'hero'.

A soldier or fireman/policeman or even a doctor or lolliop man

A hero is someone who helps people

So who 'helps' him?

My DD has this theme at herschool..

She is wearing jeans, a stripey top and some bobbles I bought with eyes on for pigtails..

Her real life superhero?

Why, her mum of course, whose superpoweris having eyes in the back of her head

I don't think he'd want to be Steven Hawking as he gets tired of people calling him that anyway because of his crazy Maths brain.

I'm aspergers and my first idol was my dad. I realise you've met one aspie you've met one aspie and your son may not feel/think the same way I did.

DS is most likely going as Steve Backshall of Deadly 60 fame.

"Practical" trousers, Tshirt and binoculars. Job done

He did say his dad as an idea, which was nice, and would only need a pair of scruffy jeans and an old t-shirt for a costume.

He wants to be an astronomer when he grows up and loves cricket and Welsh rugby. He likes Steve Backshall too and used to want to be an explorer.

I'll talk to him in the morning and see if any of these things spark anything in him.

My ds went as Usain Bolt last year and was chosen by the head as the best of the boys. Almost every other boy went as a super hero.

This year he is going dressed as a surgeon...

Sporting hero, real life hero (dad, mum, gran or grandad) or fireman, doctor, policeman or soldier.
