My son's school is very proud to be piloting the Foundation Stage for 3 - 7 year olds (I think it replaces the Key Stage 1 curriculum). The head talks a lot about the importance of learning through play. The only problem is I don't know anything about education, I'm only a parent, so I've no idea why FS is a good thing, and how it differs from what came before. I also heard on the news the other evening that Foundation Stage can be detrimental for more able children (and of course I like to think my child is a genius ) so I'm not really sure what to make of it. Can anyone shed any light on this?
