Non potty trained toddler with asd - school

Toddler starts school in sept and currently is in a asd nursery. He's not potty trained and it's not a issue there as non of the other kids are either. Nursery don't see this as a problem.

He isn't garanteed a ehcp or Sen placement. Funding is making that harder to obtain.

He could in theroy be placed into mainstream with no ehcp. So my question is will the school have to make arangements for him to be changed? Can they legally force me into school to do this?

I work 20 miles away and even if I was at home it's a five mile drive from my house.

I am trying to get him dry btw. I have been told it could take years yet if ever due to his asd.

The school have a duty to provide him with the care he needs. They cannot force you to come there to change him. I have taught children much older than him with personal care needs that were met by staff. Have you spoken to the schools you are interested in about your concerns?

I really don't know what school he will get into. I have been told to look at mainstream, units and asd schools.

I have had children in a not so local school so he has a more or less guaranteed sibling place there. However the head teacher is a nightmare and likes to micro manage everything. Due to problems with with his olders brothers statement provision, the HT has basically blocked us asking difficult questions. He knows my toddler might end up there and just said "we need to make sure he comes with some 1:1". But that's a daft thing to say as I can't ask for 1:1 funding - that's down to the la to pay for and school to request if they belive he needs it. his ehcp is totally handled by the la. They are working on it and I won't know what they decide upon in time to appeal for his start date.

The more local schools to me all seem more proactive but they have very tight catchments ( I am a mile from my village school but right on the boarder).

I am planning to see where he is offered a place before I ask the personal care quesstions. I don't really want to have the conversation with my current ultra defensive head if he's not going there. I can't talk to the senco as the head answers any emails I send in and it's a two class infant primary. He would just tell me not to go there but my toddler has to go somewhere.

When does he turn 5? Could he stay at ASD nursery until term after 5th birthday to give them longer to get ehcp in place?

No he can't stay on as its a state asd nursery so they need his place for the next preschool intake.
The nursery is already sending in the paperwork but it seems it takes ages not least because of the change in Sen law from statements to EHCPs. My la can't cope

If you and his current nursery thnk he needs an ehcp, then you should apply for one now.

Nursery is applying. I'm sure of that. They apply for every child every year. I have just done three appeals for his older brother and knowing what a fight and how long it took, I'm not ready to appeal again. Over 80% of parental applications are refused but if the nursery apply over 80% are accepted but still no gaurantees
