Just curious what kids at 10 years old get in the UK - we are in Switzerland.

DD (10) Year Six gets:

Spellings (20) once a week, then a test on all of the previous weeks spellings every six weeks.
Two maths sheets once a week
English spelling, punctuation and grammar workbook once a fortnight.

Over the holidays she has projects, this half term it is to research and write a couple of pages on an extinct animal.

1 hour on weekdays. 1-2 hours at the weekend. Over half term extended project plus 3 hours of maths homework plus a daily hour of revision for end of term exams.

Year 6 - spellings once per week, one each of maths and science per week (30mins each). Occasional grammar or English, and research project for the holidays. Supposed to read every day.

Thanks for feedback. DS spends every minute of his spare time doing homework or learning for tests (admittedly he isn't the fastest but also not the worst). Its burning him out Angry

Spellings, maths (times table revision via web app) once a week. Occassional grammar or maths worksheet. Given on a Thurs hand in on a Tues. Nothing else. For which I am hugely grateful.

She tackles the homework and generally (playdates aside) does it by Thurs evening so is learning the benefits of doing it means it doesn't lurk over her.

Including spelling and maths takes max of 1 to 1.5 hours. With milk and cookies round the kitchen table.

I fucking hate homework. I can just about deal with this. It is home work for her not for me.

Unfortunately my 7yo gets more than this for which I have repeatedly objected to and will continue to do until they sort it out

11yo, y6 state primary

10 spelling words per week
1 Maths & 1 English per week, about 30mins each max.

Y6, aged 10 at independent, gets spellings (often done in spare time, breaks etc), maths, French, science, English, history, topic, reading. Equates to about half an hour to 45 mins each night and hour and a half over weekend. The latest science homework involved locating wooodlice, creating 4 habitats and observing a writing up findings. Lack of wooodlice near our house led to this taking rather longer than guideline time. Most times I would love to be at home a bit more, but is it at times the wooodlouse project that that I don't regret I have to trudge off to the office and DH gets to be at home and supervise all these wonderful projects! ;).

20 spellings per week
Maths worksheet once a week
English - either a comprehension worksheet or a project
At least 5 pages of reading book every day
