Hi Mums and Dads,

Our son is going to sit for 7+ exams this Jan. He is well prepared in terms of maths and reasoning (consistently scores 90%+ in Bond papers for 8-9 years). However, comprehension and creative writing have been an ongoing struggle and still seems to be. We don't feel he is there yet. I know there is no quickfix as we only have ten weeks left. But in your experience is there anything we can do to improve the situation particularly in comprehension. We don't expect him to ace it but is there something that can help him at least hit a median score?

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Seems your DS is super-loaded already! DS is also sitting in Jan but we are only giving him some light workout on 7-8 bonds outside his normal school homework so far. How is your DS coping with the study load? I'm stressed for the coming exams but don't want him to feel unnecessary strain. After all they are just little 6-year old who should enjoy their normal schooling... Hope they are all bright enough to shine on the day though ...

For creative writing, try Story Cubes. We found they helped our DS. With Comprehension I'd have thought just getting some of the practice books so he understands what they're asking for.

Are you applying for a really selective school? I think you do have to be careful not to over-prepare, as you don't want your child struggling if they get in.
