This homework, aimed at 4 year olds, has me completely flummoxed! Does anyone know what the picture for the ff is supposed to be?

I won't link you to the teacher's tv clip I found yesterday with a reception teachers showing letter cards and asking 'what phoneme is this?' for your own sanity. It's like nails down a blackboard.

Was sitting there hoping one of the children would put their hand up and point out it wasn't a phoneme at all, it was a letter.

Thanks for your restraint, Rafa Grin Flowers

You're missing the point my reply is to sleepyfergus' suggestion that the sheet is "to go over the sounds" which is teaching sounds in isolation ...so every suggestion meditrina

Many of the games used in phonic sessions don't teach any actual phonics. A pairs game even without the pictures can be children matching shapes without remembering the sound they represent. Much better IMHE is to use the letters to represent sounds in words. Plain letters no illustrations ask child to find the letters to spell simple 2 or 3 sound words.
