Hi All,
For anyone/everyone who has been following or campaigning on the term time absence issue:
The Parents Union have been asked by Noah Myers www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/news/uk_news/Education/article1612177.ece to formally take over his case.
This will be the first time that we've been successful in getting a case to judicial review - that is, asking a judge to decide whether it was lawful for the school to intervene in individual family life in this situation.
All the cases there have been so far eg Stewart Sutherland, the Haymores, Janice Skelcher, Kerry Capper, have all been cases where the local authority has taken the parents to court. This is the first case where it is effectively the other way round.
We have tried before but in every case the school folded instantly and authorised the absence. If we get the decision that it wasn't lawful for the school not to authorise Noah's son's absence, it would have a tremendous impact on the campaign to reverse the current regulations.
If you'd like to know more or keep up to speed with progress you can join our facebook group www.facebook.com/groups/theparentsunion.england or follow us on twitter @parentsunionuk or join our mailing list via www.theparentsunion.org.uk.
(None of these are very flash yet, we've been too busy concentrating on the legal and Parliamentary work - any volunteers to help very welcome!)
Now, I've posted this in the "Primary School" section but it equally applies to Junior and Secondary Schools - is it OK to post there too or is there another way of getting the message to everyone who might be interested?
Thanks
Karen Wilkinson
