Hello! I am looking at Parkgate House School in Clapham for my daughter to begin Reception and would love to hear about the school or to talk with any current/past families who sent their children there. We don't currently live in the area so we are looking online for information. Found an old thread on the school which is very positive and makes the school sound wonderful but I looking for some more current feedback. Thank you in advance!

Hello, we are starting there next year. We went on a private tour as we couldn't make the open day. To us it was very friendly, welcoming, felt like a village school. I wasn't so keen on others in the area, which felt more competitive and less nurturing. For us this friendly atmosphere was more important than pushing into certain schools at 11yrs.

I can't give you further feedback as we've not yet actually started, but we were happy to sign up our DC based on what we saw.

I've known a few families whose children went there, and they were all happy with it. I've never heard a bad word about the pre-prep.

It's a small school, slightly cramped. Although co-ed throughout, an awful lot of the boys leave at 7/8+ which makes the top years inevitably girl heavy. Good leavers' destinations for their size (but they list every offer IYSWIM, so all those scholarships are won by a smaller number of candidates). Lots of exam practice, but also (I've heard from someone I've no reason to doubt) that nearly every pupil is also tutored (which is a lot, even by SW London standards).

They use the Common for sport, but don't seem to play many fixtures.

(Uniform is suffragette colours, not something you'd pick a school for but a nice thing).
