Advise on Bassett Green Primary school

Hello, I'm a second time poster (my first post was this message in another topic) so be nice to me please Smile.
I'm many months into the process of trying to move to Southampton and I was hoping you fine people might be able to give some advice on a specific school.
The latest house to have caught our eye seems to offer so much of what we want, but when I look into primary schools it is only in the catchment area for Bassett Green, despite being closer to Highfield CofE. I've got friends who used to live in the area and they didn't give me the best impression about Bassett Green, and while I know it's got a Good rating in it's last Ofsted report I'm a little nervous... Do any of you have recent experience of the school and the people who go there?
I'm keen that my daughter gets exposure to a wide range of backgrounds, and I know Bassett has a reputation for being monied but then you've got the Flower Estate (friends who went to Uni in Southampton flagged as somewhere to avoid) so I want to understand if the school is a mix of the two or more predominantly the latter?

Ask MN to move your post to Primary education.

Oops, posted too soon.
You are unlikely to get teachers offereing an opinion online about a named school, it's unprofessional. In Primary ed, you will be asking a much wider audience of parents who have no such inhibitions.

my old school :)

i can't offer a pupil's perspective as it was far too long ago but i'm guessing the monied parents of bassett don't send their dcs there.private ed all the way. :)

Hi folks. We're going to move this over to Primary Education shortly.

I'm slightly biased as I know some of the teachers at Bassett Green so I know what "value Added" means there

Yes, bits of the Flower estate are a dump of the first order
but
all schools in that area have faculty kids at them
so the overall stats hide wide disparity

Highfield is a lovely school but --and I know several of the staff - rather up itself
Portswood goes in fits and starts

TBH with all of the Southampton schools, the primaries are so disconnected from the secondaries that they are what you make of them!

Firstly, I need to apologise for the slow response - it's dickish to start a thread and then not reply to those who take the time out to give a view.
Secondly, thanks to Mumsnet for moving me to the right place.
Finally, thanks Ta1kinPeace for your thoughts. Having talking to a few other people I think I'm feeling more reassured about both Bassett Green and the availability of other options, both in terms of what they offer and our ability to get a place. If all goes to plan we will be moving into the area before the end of the year...
