My Reception Boy Not Settling In Well At All...

He has been sick twice at school at lunchtime (Thursday and Today), we think through anxiety. He has never done this before and has never been a fussy eater. As he keeps getting sent home because of being sick, he has not yet managed a full day. We thought it was a tummy bug on Thurs, but he was right as rain on Friday and through the weekend. He refused to get out of bed this morning to get into his uniform.

I feel really awful as he is in a different school to all of his nursery friends (nursery was by work, school is by home). I can't get him to open up much about what is bothering him, but he has shed a few tears saying that he misses his nursery friends. What can I do to support him and help him get through lunch? I am feeling horrible guilt, so any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Aww bless him, don't feel guilty. My ds has also started a different school to his nursery friends, it just happens sometimes.

Have you spoken to his teacher, I am sure they must be used to this kind of thing. Would it be worth inviting someone from his class round to play, just so he can get someone to pal up with?

Thanks, I have sent a quick note in for the TA tomorrow and am hoping to be able to speak with her at drop off. Because I work it is difficult for me to see other parents to arrange play dates, but I will find a way to try and make it happen as I think that it will really help. Think we are both a both a bit overwhelmed at the minute!

how old is he? is dropping back to part time an option?

does he have packed lunches? maybe you could give him smiley face sandwiches or heart shaped biscuit just so he's got a little piece of "home" with him.

i hope you have some luck.with the teacher tomorrow Flowers

Is there anyone he likes? Plays with? Can you meet at the weekend. Play in the park

Is it possible to pick him up at lunchtime for the next week so he's got a bit more time to settle in?
Agree it sounds like anxiety related, but have a check if there's anything he could be eating at school making it worse. (Eg if at snack time he's washing a couple of oranges down with milk, it won't be helping an already stressy stomach)
