Reporting from AIBU as have no idea how to repost.
Will try and keep it short -
Moved in July so had to make a late application - Surrey borough
Live in cheam, hadn't heard anything come last week so panicked and requested the vacancy list offered by the council, ZERO schools within 5km and only 1 school in Horley ( 8.5 miles away )
Panicked so contacted the school to be told there was only one space so I added it to my list, accepted it and son was due to start today.
Probably won't be entitled to transport however irrespective as journey took 1 hour 20 mins, just not feasible doing that distance every day an even if they paid milegage I would struggle to pay the petrol to return home in between and if car ever broke absolutely no public transport that could get him there.
To top it off I have another son who's application needs to be done by January ;( so he probably will get a local school which without knowing which one my eldest is at will be a complete nightmare, just as much as travelling in 2 different directions 10 miles apart would be, well that would actually be impossible.
Now I've asked for it, they've completed their obligation :( I've now declined it after the school run today but they've just advised I keep on waiting lists and if no luck by December ( he turns 5 in 2 weeks so needs to be in school come January ) to complete an in year application form for them to try and find him something.
Is there any reason I can't complete an in year application now or does he need to be legal school age to do this?
Can I appeal on the grounds that there were no schools within 2 miles or because I requested a school and they gave it to me that throws all that out :( I panicked, thoight I was doing the best for him but the disruption it would cause moving him again just was too much.

You can do an iycaf now I am sure. This will not affect your places on waiting lists at other schools. Sorry , I have not read this in detail but hope I have the gist! Smile
