IXL online English?

We have used ixl on line maths for a few years now, for DS (Year4) to practice his maths at home.

DS recently noticed that there is now English on this site as well. I looked at it today and it looked scary to me. But I grew up when we did no grammar in English at school.

I got DS to have a go at some of the exercises and he was unfamiliar with most of the stuff on there.

Has anyone had a look at this site? It is free (limited use per day unless you pay). Is this actually the curriculum that our children should be being taught in school?

I already thought that DS seemed to not be learning much grammar at school. But looking a the ixl site I'm now very worried.

My ds uses IXL as well.

I'm not a teacher, so I don't know about curriculum, but my ds liked it, so we upgraded to do English as well.(I hope I haven't wasted money!)

We pay yearly, so Maths and English for a year is ??99, I think it's a quite good deal.(??8.25 for a month.)

Irvine101 - if you read this again. What year is your DS in? And is he familiar with any of the English stuff from his Year page? My DS is not at all. And I'm just worrying that his school is not teaching him enough ... or he's not absorbing/remembering any of it.

Hi, fishoils.

My ds is in year 3. So I don't think he learned much about English grammar yet. He saw English section and tried a bit and liked it.( And I agreed because it seemed ok.)

Sorry I can't help. Hopefully some other MNetter comes along!

OK Thanks Irvine.

I think I need to word the question differently. Need to know what is actually on the grammar curriculum.

I think the question itself was fine, but IXL in the title may not attract knowledgeable people like teachers?

Also I've seen negative comment about IXL on here before, so some people just avoid it.

So, maybe start a topic on English curriculum might be easier to get answers.

Hope it works!
