Booster lessons

My DS has just gone into year 5 and is having maths booster lessons. It started today and he will be going every Monday. The school haven't told me though. I asked DS if he was told why and there was no reason given other than to help with senior school. I'm really confused. If DS is behind in any way I would have thought I would have been told so I could have arranged tutoring and extra work over the holidays. I'm more than willing to do anything I can to help DS enjoy maths and be where he should.

DS is ahead in Reading and literacy according to the report that was sent home before the holidays and maths was normal for his age.

Would I look like an idiot if I ask his teacher? She's very approachable and nice but I don't want to look like I'm moaning about not being told. Would you ask?

There's no harm in asking a simple "my son says he's started maths boosters on a Monday is there anything we can do at home to support him?"

Doesn't mean he is behind. DD's school arrange extra lessons for all sorts of groups of children (and in fact in the case of the group they've started running in Y5 what seems to be an entirely random group - DD mentioned names out of a hat!).

Just ask the teacher I would. May be he s doing well so the school want him to acheive a higher level. I think it s good that if a school use booster groups and start in early yr5 to build a better foundation for the children. It s more beneficial than only put children in booster groups in spring yr6 just for preparing the school sat results.
