Pinafores

Can anyone recommend where to get dark grey pinafores.
I always see supermarkets recommended for uniform but both Asda & sainsbury's material feels awful and thin & like it will go shiny.
Don't want to spend megabucks coz she's hard on clothes but I'd like her to have something that feels nice.
I'm sure they used to be thicker (wool content?) but maybe I'm just showing my age!

I've just bought a couple from John Lewis on-line £15 each. Look and feel great.

I like the M&S ones that have a zip down the front so they can get them on/off easily. I also had a nice one from Tesco. John Lewis do ones which are better quality and nice looking but they don't have the zip at the front, making them more awkward and they also cost much more. At least if you buy a cheapie and your dd doesn't get on with it, it doesn't matter so much.

I usually buy Sainsbury's and have found them fine. I think it is just a finish you are talking about, which should wash out.

We had M&S and Sainsbury and both lasted the whole year and could be handed down afterwards.

Sainsbury is just a hit and miss as some styles have the zip at the side and this can make it akward. Going up a size doesn't work as then they look like potato sacks.

Front zip is easy, you just need to teach your DD to put arms through first, then the head.

There are some jersey type pull-over styles around but I found they bobble a lot. Saying that we had one for PE days in the first and second term.

I liked the jersey ones but they were only in light grey & they were quite specific at induction day & said they'd make you change if wrong.

It last well, washes well and looks smart.

They changed the material a few years ago, it's less 'wooly' but washes better as a result

DD has a navy one from M&S which has washed well over the last term. They had some grey ones in Next today which felt quite nice quality wise and I'll probably go for one of those when she grows out of the other one.

DD has the sainsbury's zip up ones that are 2 for £8. Managed a whole year and they're still going strong. The material isn't thin or shiny that I've noticed (maybe I just have low standards, I am a bit of a slattern).

The zip was brilliant for self dressing after PE - I hadn't even considered it until I bought her a button up summer dress and she really struggled. Lesson learnt for next year!

We also had one from M&S and I found the BhS ones less stiff and more comfortable. They also have fewer pleats which makes ironing easier. They lasted well for the year and didn't seem to pill or anything.

I would recommend them.

BhS have a 20% deal at the moment too, which makes them even cheaper (albeit I realise that's not your main concern).

We got the grey Jersey ones from m&s. They are nice and comfortable and with no zips to faff around. I also like that they are cotton rich, so breathable. Most uniform seems to be polyester/viscose etc.

Thanks all - had a look at m&S today and not sure jersey one is dark enough. I loved the m&S button across one but sadly not practical
Bhs looks like a winner - felt nicer and had a darker grey jersey one.

The Sainsburys ones with the zip are awesome, honestly.

It's warm in modern primary schools, lightweight and quick-drying is good, not thick expensive fabric.

DD only wore pinafores for R-yr1.

All our uniform was from next. They aren't the cheapest but quality is great and they do long lengths and slim fit so I can buy clothes to fit rather than bunch up material with an adjustable waist.
