Standardised Scores

My DS has just been awarded SS in his end of Y5 report. In the spelling test, he achieved a raw score of 50/50. I was surprised to see a SS of 131 (the top mark usually 140/141). When I queried why his SS wasn't higher I was told it was because of the age adjustments.

I understand the adjustments made for age, but 100% is 100%. Why would a 10y 0mths get a higher SS than a 10y 7mths even though they both got 50/50?

It doesn't make sense to me.

All it means is that when the test was standardised quite a few of the children that were the same age as your DS also achieved 100%. The test has a ceiling which your DS may well be above, but obviously the test can only measure up to it's ceiling. I hope that makes sense?
