Prep blackmail?

Have just heard from a parent of 10 yr old that his prep (which goes up to 13) insists that if he takes 11+ for other schools and does not gain a place, they will not take him back. This sounds like blackmail and coercion to me. Have others met this?

Sounds very strange. Most preps are keen to keep numbers for years 7 & 8. Unless of course he isn't doing well enough to "pass" CE and achieve a place at 13.

We're encouraged to take lots, but there's no pressure- the choice is with the family/child.

Depends where this is. I know some schools in London take a very hard line on even considering other schools
