Help with homework

DD (9 tomorrow) is having homework problems and so by implication is Katymac

It has taken just over 4 hours to do 1.25 sides of A4 - she rewrote Little Red Riding Hood

This cannot go on - it is supposed to be 20 minutes of homework

So is she getting too much? Is she a lazy cow? Am I a pushy mum? What is going wrong?

I cannot cope with this

Please help

How is she on the PC? I know learning to write quickly by hand is an important skill but the task will have been to focus on narrative structure and not handwriting in this instance (just thinking what my y5 are doing at the minute) so the teacher may be open to DD using the pc from time to time.....

well, you could have a chat with her and say that you understand why she doesn't want to do it, but at the end of the day it has to be done.
she is old enough to understand that there will be consequences if it isn't done, ask her how she would feel if she went in without it and the teacher told her off.
tell her that you'll always support and help her with it, but if it doesn't get done then it's HER responsibility and HER choice.

Any feedback from teacher Katymac?

Katymac · 21/11/2006 18:07

30 mins then sign it off

Perfectionist - unhappy with OK - wants to get it right were phrases the teacher used

Also capable of writing a side in 30 mins - not necessary to rewrite (not sure about that myslef - surely it's better to wirte in rough then rewrite neatly?)

Anyway - it's sorted...maybe

That sounds good Katymac - I hope it works for you. When's her next non-Maths homework?!

Katymac · 21/11/2006 18:32

Monday ..... if she makes it that far
