Unless you usually buy tampax for female teachers, why would you need a different present?

jeez, in my day there was non of this presents for teachers bolloxs, thank god. Just get him a box of chocs if you must.

Card with message from kid. Box of maltesers. Bottle of wine or beer. Box of biscuits for the staff room. Voucher for classroom stuff. Depends how much you want to spend, really.

No tampax but often jewellery or something feminine. Something under £7.

If you have nothing helpful to add don't bother posting thanks.

Maybe some geeky stationary that he could use in the classroom? Novelty USB? The male teachers I worked with all loved stuff like that. Failing that food/beer is always well received.

Depends on your teacher. Outing myself here, but ds and his teacher share a love of comics, so our present was easy...

My DH is a teacher. All wine and chocs are gratefully received by him

He also has quite a few nice pens which he keeps in a safe place for "special" and never uses

Actually, my Dad was a teacher. In those days, Christmas was the best - my sister and I particularly enjoyed the Matchmakers, After Eight mints and Chocolate Oranges.

Is it that difficult? Unless you know him well and what he's into, then a token present such as wine, beer, or choc presented with a card is fine. I really wouldn't worry too much.

Take it the sarky comment was aimed at me. Actually I can, and will, post on any thread I like. So which part of box of chocs is unhelpful? Or are you just riled at my opinion that buying presents for teachers is sycophantic bull, and yet another unnecessary burden on already hard pressed parents.

Well DS is making necklaces for all his female teachers and TAs, so a different type of present is needed for his male teacher. He is going to make him a bookmark

I really do not understand the whole "presents for teacher" concept. What's next, presents for Best Doctor? World's Best Dentist cards/mugs/keyrings?

If you really feel you must gush thanks for doing his job then I'm sure a homemade card would be lovely, and he'll thank you for giving him one less item to deposit at the charity shop on his way home.

Beer, or something to do with his favourite sports team if that's his thing. My DH wears some subtle football related cuff links he got from a pupil every day.

Harriet I only give to those I feel deserve it and actually posted on the other thread saying I wouldn't be spending a penny on my dd's job share for exactly the reasons stated by the op.

One of my other DC has had a fab year,come on in every way and grown hugely in confidence.I won't be gushing( my DC always make and write their own cards). None of my DC have had a male teacher before so simply wanted some ideas. If that offends you can frankly jog on.

My dcs teachers educate them for 30 hours per week for 47 weeks of the year. They are fantastic people who spend a lot of their own time on prepararation and related school work. My kids love school and are doing great and that is down to the teachers. I always write them a card each with heartfelt thanks specifics to each teacher. I give them a gift or club in with other parents for vouchers.

It's so ungracious to say ' why bother giving something to teachers'. It doesn't have to cost anything for 'hard pressed parents' to give a home made card. The comparison with doctors and dentists isn't relevant unless your child spends 30 hours a week at either of these. If my child did I am sure I would be giving that doctor or dentist a card and my sincere thanks! As parents of children in hospital for a long time tend to do.

Why are people so mean spirited to people who do so much for them? Why is saying thank you or showing appreciation considered a negative. Harriet sounds like such a grump I guess not much fun ahead for her kids in the hols.
