Hi there,

I have a 3.5 year old daughter and was interested in getting her to some of the good schools that take pupils through assessment. Needed some advice for the same (as I saw past very useful thread from posters such as mumteacher, etc.)

  1. Are there other parents in the same boat as me i.e. kids going to sit assessment for entry in Sept 2016?
  2. any advice, tips and guidance from experienced parents or tutors who have gone through the same?

Again from past threads - I know I will take it easy, I know I will not pressurise my child so please can we keep the focus on helping in the area of 'assessment' only. No other bashing of anyone please!

If you are considering tutoring, then I think you're looking at the wrong avenue as it's a waste of time and money.

The 4+ is all about well socialised and usually older children being asked to do things a good nursery would do anyhow - jigsaws, pattern matching, listening to stories and answering questions. They don't expect children to be reading etc.

I know you only want "welcome" advice but do consider how you would feel if your child isn't as able as you think now. It's very hard to work out suitability at 4 but do have a back-up plan if it doesn't go as planned - whether now or down the road ar any point.

Good luck!

Thank you both. That is exactly the kind of information I was looking for.

This is just another experience and good if we both know beforehand what's to come!!! If she gets in good and if she can't that no problem too ... Smile
