Hello, my 6yo son is about to go into yr2- happily reading and writing away but wondered if there were any good apps anyone could recommend to help with spelling so he isn't just mindlessly playing minion rush when he had iPad time? Thanks

These are educational web sites for 'proper' computers, so I don't if they translate to iPad; in particular Woodlands is one of the very best sites for all things educational:

www.ictgames.com/

www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/page/default.asp?title=Woodlands%20Junior%20School&pid=1

And this is one of the best books to support Literacy, right up to secondary level:

An inexpensive and easy to use book, that can encourage children with reading, spelling and writing, and really help them to understand Phonics, is reviewed in the MN Book Reviews section. Just search ‘Phonics’ and my name.

Squeebles is good for spellings - you program in the ones he finds tricky. There is also a squeebles times tables app. Ds also likes Dragon box which teaches algebra. He still would rather play minion rush though!

Spell board, you have to add the spellings, but it will grow with the child.
