DS2 On reception visits - started off okay but now seems unhappy

DS2 seemed to settle into his reception visits no problem when he started in Sepetember. He was only 4 in August but he's quite 'grown up' for his age so I wasn't too worried about him being the youngest in the year. But over the last few weeks he says that "he doesn't want to play with any of the boys in his class at break times, because he doesn't know what to play" I do know that sometimes he plays with one or two of the girls. He's also been waking in the night wanting to come into our bed (which he's not done for ages) This has thrown me a bit as I've always thought he was quite confident and mixed quite easily,... I really don't want to make a big deal of it as I know that things change quickly - DH thinks I'm being completely over the top for worrying. But I just want DS2 to be happy and settled at school with lots of friends...

Most of the children in our reception year are very up and down at the moment. My DD1 started really well in September but is becoming more and more ratty about school. The run up to Christmas is often fraught as there are other pressures, like learning songs for Nativity Play etc.

Occasionally she says another child wouldn't play with her, or somebody pushed her out of their game - mostly it's all forgotten the next day.

I'm sure your DS will settle in, make friends and get the hang of the new playground games (we were Power Ranger virgins until recently!). You'll just have to wait it out and make sure you give DS the comfort and confidence he needs in the meantime.
