Hi,

I am new to this forum , I have moved to StAlbans few months ago in the hope of getting a good school for my little boy.. I stay in Ridgmont road as the schools around were reasonably good/outstanding. My son has been allocated a school that is 2.5 miles from where i stay ie in Margaret Wix.. I have no idea about this school and the ofstead report says the school needs improvment.. im shattered and kind of lost.. any advice would help .. thanks a lot !!

Can you arrange to go see the school? There is a lot more to a school than it's OFSTED.

St Albans schools are generally very oversubscribed, and unfortunately I think you may fall into an area that is just slightly too far from all of the central primaries to get a space. When you say "a few months ago", did you make an application on time to Herts from this address? If you were a late application then that will explain it, but I'm not entirely surprised even if the application was on time; I think Maple might be your closest school but you had to live within 700 metres to get in there this year.

Check that Herts have the right address, and get on waiting lists for all the schools you would prefer. You could think about an appeal, but it will almost certainly be a class size appeal, meaning you can't win unless, essentially, the LEA have made a mistake (such as having you at the wrong address, for example).

Thanks Patricia,

Thanks a lot for your message..

You are right I stay central to all the schools and not very close to any particular school.. St peters was my closest school and i had to stay like 320 m to get in and i stay 512 m Sad.. I have seen other threads on this forum that says Margaret Wix is a "no no" and the ofstead and thats why i am very upset Sad .. to be honest i had not even heard of this and defn not something I would choose for my son..

just hope i get a better school in the CI1 ..
