Godalming - School Advice

Hello,

We're currently trying to buy a house in Godalming, but my son starts school in Sept and all of the schools are so oversubscribed he will probably only gain a place in Green Oak.

Does anyone know anything about Green Oak? There's so many differing reviews, but from the website it sounds very idyllic and a great school. The SATS etc are really great as well. Very confused!

Thanks for any advice as I really am very confused!

Hiya,
I'm not an expert, but we did Godalming schools for start last September, so know a bit about it. It really depends where you're planning to live, as catchments are very tight. I would've thought you'll be offered a place at Green Oak as a starting point - which of course you can accept - but then make sure you're on a waiting list for a place at the school you really want. I don't know how admissions work at this stage, but there's a lot of movement between now and the start of term (and even the first few weeks of term) and if you move particularly close to a school, your distance will jump you over people who are further away and already on the waiting list.
Where are you looking at houses and what type of school do you really fancy (primary vs infant/junior, 'nurturing', challenging/academic)?
I've heard some positive things about Green Oaks, but it doesn't have a great reputation locally. I understand that the staff are very committed and it's come a long way recently, but there are some potential issues with behaviour of some of the children. HTH! Do ask any other questions if I can help at all.
