level 2c maths questions? APP/ levelling help needed!

Hi, I'm working with a colleague on assessment/ targets for some struggling mathematicians in year 2, but I'm not that familiar with APP and how many of the level 2 criteria need to be obtained before they can be deemed to be a 2c. As there are no sub levels on the APP grid, I'm just not sure what a best fit for 2c looks like. i know the children very well, but just need help deciding where they are level wise.

the children in question have some level 2 skills (can partitioning into tens and units, order 2 digit numbers and can add 2 digit numbers with equipment) however, they still have some big gaps in knowledge and their reasoning is very poor.

what would you except a 2c child to look like?? can anyone give me some 2c type questions, please ?

Unfortunately " Specific sub-level assessment criteria don’t exist and have never existed. Whilst helpful guidance in arriving at level-related judgements is available, a good degree of professional judgement is also needed." it's a matter of your guess is as good as anyone's when it comes to sub levels (as technically they have never existed)

Although bizarrely, if you look at the Pitch and Expectations questions for year 2, the questions are sub-levelled!
That doesn't however mean that if a child can do one or two 2c questions then that is the level they are working at, they need to be able to answer questions across the range of the curriculum

Have you looked at The Standards Files

Look at it as 2c is an emerging/ hesitant L2, 2b is secure and 2a confident.

if you look at each criterion in that way and assess child's security in achieving it, assessing sublevel is more effective.

Purely anecdotally, I'd call the child a 2b if pretty much everything in level 2 is highlighted. If only a few aspects, then that's a 1a. If it's more than 'some' but not 'most' then 2c.

Everyone seems to have a different cut off...

I like APP as it helps me visualise what comes next, but it's not an exact science. You might find the numeracy ladder helpful too, although I can't find a link to it at the moment. It specifies 'what counts' for each sublevel in each strand.
