Anyone got into la Fontaine academy

So my Ds got into la Fontaine academy (reception) which I'm really pleased about (first choice) but now thinking about it I'm a little concerned about the journey. We are coming from Beckenham hill and know bromley common is quite congested all the time especially during the morning. Does anyone know any other routes that may be a little less congested. We drive.

Also worried about the uncertainty of where the permenant site was to be held. Upon applying I thought it may be on Westmorland road but now looking into it and viewing it as harris academy Shortlands is currently occupying the building I realise it's not really an ideal site. And altho la Fontaine would like the school to be Central the more I think about it there is no land or space central enough to build a school and any land that was available has been turns into houses and apartments. Not sure I could commute to bromley common for the next 7 years so hoping it will really be close to Central bromley

My child's still a baby however I quite like the idea of sending him here when older. Please could you update with more info on planned / possible locations.

My DD was also offered a place. It das our first option too. We are in Orpington and the current site is ok for us.. I hope it stays more ir less in the same area.. ir not we will have to share the drop offs with other parents or pay someone to take her!

@mummie11 sharing is a good idea. Ideally I would like to be able to pick up or drop off so I can get to know the staff, parents and children

Hi my daughter also got LaFontaine, our first choice, but like you I'm extremely nervous now about the uncertainty of it's permanent location. It will have to leave it's current one in 2017 as Princes Plain is expanding to a 3 form entry & so will need the space back. Widmore road is most likely where it will be as Harris Shortlands will be moving. If it is Widmore Road I have no idea how I will get my daughter to & from school everyday as there is no chance of parking anywhere near. I loved the school but I wish Bromley council would hurry up & make a decision it's so unfair to all the children, parents & staff.

Bromley council are looking for an alternative site within a mile of Westmoreland rd. The council want to use the site for a college for 15-18. Everyone is aware of the time frame so we won't be homeless :) my dd is in y1 and my ds will start in September. it is a fantastic school :)

Honeyrah · 17/04/2015 19:47

@itshouldntmatter Do you know of any possible options at all?

Itshouldntmatter · 17/04/2015 19:56

Honeyrah I don't I'm afraid. But the STEP academy trust own Westmoreland, so it would need to be better, or else they wouldn't do a swap. I think there is a reasonable chance it won't be at Westmoreland permanently, (although I do stress I sm just a lowly parent), but someone mentioned that were it to be there, there might be a parking arrangement with waitrose at bromley South. What I would primarily say is try not to worry about it. I know it is easier said than done, but I personally think the school is worth it. I won't gush everywhere (it would start to get annoying), but it is a lovely place for both children and parents.

That's reassuring thanks Smile

Hello everyone, my daughter started Reception at La Fontaine Academy in September 2014. My husband and I commute every day from Bromley South to Princes Plain where the school is currently located. During peak times (i.e. 8:15am & 3:15pm), it takes by car approx. 10 mins to drive there. Parking on Princes Plain is, however, complicated. Like you, I was initially worried about the distance and time it would take to get there but all in all, the roads are not as congested as we thought they would. Our daughter also attends some clubs there (breakfast club and afterschool clubs) and on these days, we have no traffic at all to reach the school. I also understand everyone's concern about a permanent site. The school has 16 months left to secure a good site, less than 1 mile from Bromley South station. As some people have already indicated it, One Westmoreland Road belongs to the EFA and if no other better option is found for La Fontaine, this is where the school will be permanently located as from September 2016. So, for those worried parents whom children will start this year at La Fontaine, the long commute to Princes Plain will only last for one year. After that, the school will be at either One Westmoreland Road or in a site less than one mile from it. So please, try not too worry too much about it. As some of you may know, Havelock Recreation Ground was refused by the Council. However, since the Council is hoping to "repurchase" One Westmoreland Road from the EFA, I believe they are working hard to find La Fontaine a better alternative than both Havelock and Westmoreland. The headteacher said we should hear back at the end of May.
