DD 7 struggling with grammar.

She's doing well at school but as a bit of background, she was a late talker, and then had some speech therapy at 4.

Now she's struggling with grammar, particularly things like mixing up them and those. We've tried correcting, we've tried ignoring but how do I crack this?

I would ignore this. The english language is difficult to grasp and it is only when you teach children u wonder how they are ever going to get there !! There their and they're is a good example. Site / sight .... different but the same.

She is only young, so the more she reads, and (perhaps more importantly) is read to, she will hear language used correctly, and eventually will absorb correct usage.

Avoid TV or Radio programmes that do NOT feature correct language - and sadly this is all too common now. Many years ago "Blue Peter" could be relied upon to set good standards regarding language and pronunciation, but not always now.

This book should help a bit, and also some of the books by Lynne Truss, which are aimed at children (which you can research yourself, or come back and I'll give more details.):

An inexpensive and easy to use book, that can encourage children with reading, spelling and writing, and really help them to understand Phonics, is reviewed in the MN Book Reviews section. Just search ‘Phonics’.

Thank you so much. Luckily she is a real book worm and absolutely loves being red to. We're reading the Magic Faraway Tree series at the moment.
