School assembly

I'm wondering if people could tell me what type, if any, songs your DC sing in school assembly.

DC have started at a new school and I was quite surprised to hear the song that was being sung and I'm just wondering if it isn't as unusual as I thought.

Quite nice old pop songs. Eg Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. No hymns.

In celebration assembly they sing Proud by Heather Small and the theme is 'what have you done to make us feel proud'. I was a bit surprised but the kids really like it. Not sure what happens during other assemblies.

What do your DC sing blibblibs?

Current and old pop mostly. Katy Perry' Firework was an early favourite I remember. As well as some old favourites at Harvest (Little Red Tractor, anyone?) Why, what did they sing?

They didn't sing anything bad, it just seemed a bit pointless. Lego House by Ed Sheran.

They used to go to a CofE school so would sing hymns, but also songs about being kind, following rules that kind of stuff.

Lego house just seemed like a missed oppurtunity and it sounded awful Grin

I think the point would have been for children to actually enjoy singing! There will be other opportunities for singing in rounds/harmonies etc but enjoying singing is really nice. We sing songs you would also say are pointless but hearing 180 children singing their heart out with a smile always cheers me up!

Went into a school recently where they sang "don't stop believing", though it did not sound too much like the original by Journey. Though the guitar riffs did provoke some interesting air guitar work, mainly by the boys.

They do clean chart songs. They give the reception kids instruments to play along. It's ear assault but the kids enjoy it

Generally hymns, however it isn't a faith school

At the minute it's all 'I'm a spring chicken, i'm yellow and small...'

Something about conkers in the autumn

They also sing things along the lines of its good to be me
