Volunteer helper primary school! DBS check very nervous

Hi please help.
I was arrested last year (common assault) but no further action and came home same day.
Want to be a volunteer at school only helping kids read, got DBS processing as I write this, extremely nervous it will show up on the certificate???
Also I have had a few home visits from social services to do with DV but both visits were fine and the case was closed. Will that show up on DBS check ?
Asking that as all schools have the child protection rule.

Have you spoken to anyone at the school about your concerns?
Maybe better coming from you?
Or maybe that is jumping the gun?

It is my understanding that only cautions and convictions show up on a DBS check, otherwise people could make unfounded allegations to block others from jobs.

If it did show up, that doesn't mean school would bar you anyway. They might ask you about it, but if they are already aware of the DV situation they'd understand.

It could be that the DBS would show up the various issues but it is then for the school /LA to consider what these mean and whether they are prepared to consider using you as a volunteer in the school.
I assume it is a primary school in which case recent developments may have a bearing on your application. The DfE have fairly recently decided that the Childcare regulations around safeguarding apply to primary schools and in these regs is consideration not only of the person directly involved but also everybody else who lives in the home. This includes issues like being found guilty of ABH and GBH amongst other things. If you make a disclosure of somebody in the family home then you will be suspended until the relevant authorities make a decision on your case, which could be months.
I am guessing that your mention of DV may mean that you could have issues around somebody in your family home.

No one has ever been convicted of an offence at home, so should be ok.
Didn't think it was necessary to disclose my arrest as I wasn't convicted.?

Arrests even though there is no conviction may show up on an enhanced DBS. It is at the discretion of the chief constable of the force.

It will be for the head or LA to decide then whether you can be a volunteer after seeing the DBS. If it is really worrying you, then ask to speak to the head in confidence.

If you can get the confidence to do it, maybe pre-empt any queries, and 'come clean' to tell the Head, child protection person, or whoever you are in contact with at school, about it.

I can't see how an arrest without conviction could possibly show up on a DBS. It would be plain wrong.

I think the detail and the context of the charges are key as to whether they'll show up/be a problem.

If the violence was towards a minor, or unprovoked, then that would be more of a problem.

I know of an example where a teacher committed a crime and received a caution for criminal damage when he was a young teen shortly after losing his parents- this was all disclosed and he is allowed to teach and it isn't a problem.
