Primary schools in Stretham

Hi all,

I'm moving into Sunnyhill Road in Streatham in a month or so with my daughter who is in year 2 and very bright (she has a reading age of 11).

We're not religious and can't pretend to be so our nearest schools are Sunnyhill, Julians, Hitherfield. Does anyone have any experience of these they could share?

We've heard that Julians is very over-subscribed. Is this only-if-you're-living-next-door oversubscribed do you think even to get in at this stage? What about the others? I think Hitherfield has a new head - any impressions? Would Sunnyhill be able to accomodate my brainbox daughter?

Bit of a stream of conciousness I know, but any help / tips / info appreicated. Thanks.

Yes, Julian's is a small school and very very over-subscribed - a friend of mine didn't get in and they live half way down Julian's farm Rd - but they were offered a place later on. It's always worth putting your name down because places can sometimes come up in the middle of a term if someone leaves.
I know some families who go to Hitherfield - it seems an excellent school, and as it is becoming a new Children's centre will probably get some upgraded facilities - but I don't really know anyhting about that.

Don't know anyhting about Sunnyhill - except that it isn't as far up the SATS tables as Jullian's or Hitherfield.

Given your daughters reading age, I would go and talk to the Heads of all the schools about it.

Hello, SunnyJane. My younger two are at Hitherfield and my eldest left last year. It's a good school and I would recommend it highly - it's managed to accommodate my brainbox sons .

Sunnyhill has had quite an exodus to Hitherfield in recent years over bullying. Hitherfield's new Head is the former deputy head and is very good. Julian's is one form entry and very oversubscribed indeed, but you could have a go and see what happens.

As I'm being a little more direct and personal than usual, I've changed my name for this post. (Blu, I think you can probably work out who I am).

Thanks a lot all of you. I'm glad to hear good things about Nitherfield, which looks like the place we'll most likely send her to, particularly given now oversubscribed Julians is. All very difficult isn't it? I can't believe I'm having to do it all over again ...aghh..

Just a note to say that we had a look round Hitherfield and really liked the look of it. We've got a place and my daughter starts next week. Thanks very much for your help, we're really looking forward to her starting there.

That's great news, SunnyJane.

If you see someone looking harrassed trying to get two boys organized at the end of the day, do say hello - if it's not me, I'm sure it'll be someone else who'll be glad of a chat .
