Rosemary Works School

We are thinking about registering our DD at Rosemary Works School for Year 1. Could any current parents comment on the class sizes are and how the small class sizes affect learning. Also, what are the current Secondary school placements? We want a small nurturing school for her but am not sure if it is too small and also would love reassurance about the quality of the education. Thank you!!!

My child is only in the school's nursery class, so I'm afraid that I can't answer your questions about small class sizes further up the school. I would definitely vouch for the caring and nurturing atmosphere though.

I don't think you can really get an answer on which secondary schools children have gone to recently, as the oldest class is only Y3/4 at the moment. Although a lot of effort seems to be going into building up class numbers in the upper school.

My DS is at Rosemary Works and has been since nursery class. He really enjoys school and we've been very happy with his progress there. The small class sizes mean that the children get lots of attention and can all be challenged or helped as necessary. However, the children do quite a lot of all activities all together (for example day trips) and year groups are mixed up in enrichment time on Thursday afternoons, so all of the children know each other and are friendly with each other.

The school is relaxed, friendly and nurturing and that is the overriding impression you get when you view the school, but the standard of education is also extremely good (although the children are not put under any pressure which we like - it's not at all 'hot housey'). The teachers we've had so far have been great. As well as being very kind and approachable, they have taught interestingly and creatively and have started to develop a real love for learning in DS. Based on the attainment levels he was given in his last report I also know that his maths and literacy are way above national average (I think many of the children in his class are, but as it's a non academically selective school that's obviously just because of how they've been taught).

I would echo everything everyone has said here. My daughter is in reception here and has been at their nursery previously too. She absolutely loves it here an d we are very happy with both the class sizes and the standard of eduction, it is high. IT is done in a way though as the others have said where children don't feel pressured, they're just enjoying themselves!

I know other parents at similar small independents in the area whose children are struggling at reception age with pressure at school which is not what we wanted for our children. I hope you come and join us.

I know this thread is a few months old now however I wondered if you would mind sharing some info about your experiences with the nursery. My daughter is due to start at RW in a few months time, she'll be just under a year when she starts.

Did either of your lo'a start in the 'baby room' and would you recommend the key worker your child had during their time there?

I'm really struggling to find any information from current or existing parents,
So I'm a little nervous this maybe because there is nothing particularly good to say!

I'm sorry, I don't have any direct experience of the baby room. I do know people who have children there though who are extremely happy (the parents and the children). My DC1 started in Big Playschool a few years ago (that's on the school site for age 2+ but still run by the nursery) and I have another DC due to start in Big Playschool in September. I know the staff there because I see them daily when I drop DC1 off at school and they all seem very nice. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Really glad to hear that your experience with the Big School has been good, time flies so quickly, it won't be long before my lo is there!

I'm struggling to get any parental feedback from those who have recent experience of leaving babies aged 6-18months. This, in and of itself is a little disconcerting as the nursery has been around a little while .
