they are closing our local Primary and building 2 lovely new ones at each end of the town. There is a competition to decide on a new name, and i wnat to win. dont even know what the prize is yet

old school is Kinloch Primary

most popular suggestion yet is Thomas Street Primary (boring?)

head together every one!

do you really like the name of your local school? what is it?

have emailed you re this.

Does your local area have anything 'notable' in its history ?

NOMurDErousPLUME · 20/10/2006 12:27

Was the land used for anything particular in the past ?

MrsBadger · 20/10/2006 12:28

All the ones near us are either St Someone or named obviously after the village / area / estate.

I quite like Thomas Street Primary actually - irrationally I hate schools with inspirational Pegasus-Rainbow Community School type names.
Is there a historical figure knocking about in the area who could do with a boost?

TeeCee · 20/10/2006 12:28

You need to dig up some history on the grounds the schools are being built on.

What's the area known for?

What are the views of if anything?

Give us some clues about the area, the town, paint us a picture and it'll be easuer to think of a name.

My DD's schools have either been named after the churches they are linked with, have a name about the brds that used to frequent the are when it was a field, or they are named after the hill that can be seen from the area and so on.

nailpolish · 20/10/2006 12:29

shall have a dig around

My dd and ds go to The Grove Primary which is nice. Logo is 3 fluffy trees

FIMBOnABroomstick · 20/10/2006 12:46

Tiger Woods Primary.

Seriously, I think as the others have suggested, find out the history of the land.

nailpolish · 20/10/2006 12:47

pinotmum - thatll be the next thing - getting the pupils to design a logo

(anyone else remember when Grange Hill changed theirs! was it suzanne who won )

OP posts:
Iklboo · 20/10/2006 12:48

Wasn't it Danny who won? And then died?

nailpolish · 20/10/2006 12:48

Our local primary schools are either named after the village they are in, or after churches they are linked with. There is one, called the Oaktree, nice name, but perhaps not very exciting...

Just out of curiosity, if they are replacing the old school with two new ones, does that mean children will be split from friends etc? Sounds like a big upheavel....

CorpseBride · 20/10/2006 21:13

Urgh, they can't name it after anything 'golf'.

The usual mode for this is that the posh end of town gets the 'Saint ...' and the poor end of town gets something modern and inspirational.

Cappuccino · 20/10/2006 21:14

why are you so desperate?

do you get your head on a plaque?

CorpseBride · 20/10/2006 21:43

Probably just her name , the other sounds rather drastic. And not much of a prize.
