Parent friendly 'Age Related Expectations' info

Apparently my y1 ds is 'working towards age related expectations' for reading, writing and maths, which seemed like an odd summary for an otherwise positive report.

If you know of any parent-friendly info/ online booklets which states clearly in a useful but not overwhelming fashion what these expectations are, could you post me a link please?

On the one hand it seems a bit concerning but on the other, without some further information, it's not actually very meaningful. He could be a little bit behind these expectations or vastly behind.

P10 of this has the early years goals they are expected to meet by the end of reception. As far as I know the terminology is one of three categories: working towards, met or exceeded.

DD, who was assessed as a year ahead of her classmates in reception (early reader, good memory), has just been assessed at 'Y1 developing' which we were rather surprised about. Apparently the new curriculum very much discourages children being rated outside their year group and requires children to show mastery in a broad range of activities independently...

It's a new way to think about things for an ex-teacher.

No worries Momzilla. It was useful actually because I could see he was doing well in reception.

I'm in a similar boat Galana I thought he was doing well and now I think I may have got a little complacent (and run ragged by the baby) and dropped the ball a bit.

But the age related expectations are for the END of the specific year, so you would expect children to be working towards the majority in January, they have another 6 months to go!

Yes Spaniel I agree. After some digging it's clear that they are referring to end of year targets but there's no mention of that in the report. From the way they have presented the information it seems there are children who are working towards their age targets, children working at them and children working beyond them and in my guilt-ridden-parent-panic I had a brain malfunction and read that as though he had dropped to the bottom third of the class.
