Twig's Literacy Scandal .. the update and finale

For anyone who's interested

Meeting with Head of Literacy went very well and I am very impressed with her (even though she's a mere child and how on earth she can be legally married I just do not know ) .... again apologies but systems have been changed so it won't happen to another child and a thorough explanation of how reading is actually taught in his class totally reassured me

I think I was putting too much emphasis on one-to-one and not considering the reading games and ongoing focus

I made some points that are being taken on board .. an open day plus info sheet for parents plus a pool of reading volunteers rather than just reading with yoru child's class and gave her contact details of 5 orgs who do reading volunteers too

oh and DS CAN NOW READ

seriously .. 3 books from school, 1 reading session with teacher and its suddenly clicked .. I knew he was on the verge of it clicking

Glad it's all been sorted out and you feel happier about what goes on at school. And glad to hear that the reading has clicked!

It's a wonderful moment when they suddenly 'get it' isn't it. Didn't happen with DD as she worked and worked at it for so long that it came gradually. DS#1 couldn't read one day and then next just read me a book - no errors, no hesitations. He was quite late - about 7.5. I gave him a hug and made a big fuss - "Alex, you read so well! That's brilliant!" He just looked at me as if I had a screw loose and said' Yeah...course I can!'.

Glad you got it sorted and opened up some lines of communication with the school

That's great

Great news Twig.

I know what you mean about some of the teachers being closer to ds's age than mine though.
