Which year would a child born May 1998 and October 1999 be in? If we moved back to the UK I was thinking ds would be in year 4 but dd would be border line maybe between year 3 or 2? I would prefer 2 as she is not up to british standard with reading english although we do work at home.

May-Aug 1998 would be year 4
Sep 1998-Aug 1999 would be year 3
after Sept 1999 would be year 2

(My Ds is a summer 2001 baby and is in year 1).

My ds is Aug 99 and he is in year 3. So October would be year 2
98 would be year 4.

Thanks , that would be good news for dd, she keeps up quite well in her german school class but she is fed up of being one of the youngest, I got her into schooling earlier than usual as she was bored to tears in the kindergarten. It would be nice for her to be one of the oldest! I forgot how important age can be to kids, we tend to just ignore it as we get older but kids like to compare who is the oldest.
