It said "Are you actually practicing key words at home?"

We are! although my little summer born DS is quite resistant and I'm finding really difficult to get one to one time with a 7 month old baby in the mix.

Please hold my hand and tell me not to worry.

This happens to my dd regularly. I got fed up and wrote a really scathing reply complete with capital letters and red pen as the TA had done.
My dd is y1 but is undergoing SEN assessments for some neurological issues and school are aware but still get these stupid remarks. DD loves reading, she can't read a thing but she tries.
I work in a primary school as a HLTA and to write remarks like that is imo unprofessional!

oh and dd is resistant to any form of writing and spelling!

OP, teacher was a bit off with the "actually" but please let them off - writing them in zero allocated time was always the most enormous mission..
On the reading front. Don't panic, summer born boys typically take a bit longer. I've seen some even 'fail' the te 1 phonics, only to be 'top group' the year after. Reassure him, keep reading stories for fun and practise little and often key words. Never more than 5mins a day or poor mite will want to give up.
