We have an appeal this week for a Y4 place at our catchment school, which is currently one over it's PAN. Does anyone have any tips?

As this is for Y4 it will be about the balance of prejudice. What that means is that you need to show that the disadvantage to your child through not being admitted outweighs any problems the school will face through having to cope with an additional child. You therefore need to focus on why this is the right school for your child. What is it this school offers that is missing from their current school (or whatever other school the LA has offered) and which will be of particular benefit to your child. For example, if your child is musical and this school has a school orchestra but the other school does not that is worth mentioning. Note that transport and child care problems generally don't win appeals so do not spend too much time on them.

If you want more detailed advice you will need to give more information. Why are you appealing for a place at this school? What is the PAN? What does the case to refuse admission say? Anything else you can think of that may be useful?

I sent you a PM as the factors are very identifying, I hope you can reply. Thank you.
