Yr 1 parents evening - what to expect?

It's probably been covered a million times before but due to prolonged teacher absence in my daughter's reception year we've never been to a parents evening.
We've been invited to one for Y1 and I just wondered what the procedure is generally. Do they just advise in very general terms if my daughter is struggling/doing ok/doing well or do we get given assessment levels at this stage?

We got 10 min to talk about what they were doing, what was expected, and target activities and things to talk about/work on - both academic and behaviour. Got a detailed sheet of working towards/expected/exceeded for lots of skills at the one near the end of Reception, which we discussed, so we have a general idea already.

If you aren't one of the first slots, they will run late...

There should never be any suprises at Parents evening - good schools will have discussed with already if they had any serious concerns.

There will probably be a general discussion about your child's work (you usually get to see their books before you go in) and there should be some discussion about what targets they are currently working towards in school and what they need to do at home.

As far as I know, assessment levels have gone and now you are told an overview of their progress - either accelerated progress needed, broadly on track or making good progress.

I'm hoping it should be fairly positive then as I've not been pulled in for a chat yet at pick up time Wink

My main concern is her teacher is going on mat leave at Xmas time and we've not been told who will be covering for her. I do hope it's not going to be a repeat of reception, whereby it was a string of temps and very poor communication to the parents. (We kept being told that her Rec teacher was starting back soon but it didn't happen).

Thank you for your input.

we get 5 minutes and it is supposed to be only about goals for the year.
