Ks1 ability challenge Y1?

DS came home the other week with a sheet of scores for the "KS1 ability challenge". Things like how long he could stand on one leg, how fast he ran, how far he could throw.

I suspect he struggles with things like this as he was below expectations in motor skills in reception, but I can't find anywhere what sort of results might be expected in Y1. Does anyone know or has done this with Y1 and can give me some idea?

I have never heard of it. My guess would be it is something the school have set up themselves, perhaps to identify children who could do with some extra support in developing these skills. Certainly my daughters (now Yr1 and Yr2) haven't mentioned doing one.

Is it definitely to test their ability, or could it be to practice measuring & engage them in maths, and homework generally?

If the former, like nonicknames said maybe it would be about identifying anyone who is missing those skills, but I'd have thought it would be better tested in PE really. I've not heard of it at our school.

Definitely not a national thing as a Y1 teacher I've never heard of it.

Argh, it's agility challenge not ability challenge. The form he got with his scores on looked like some external thing as it had 'name of school' printed on it.

Ah well, at least I know to practise bean bag throwing with him!

Sounds quite good, wish I had something for my DDs to see where they are at.

What is the expected age for being able to walk downstairs 'adult style' confidently without using a bannister?

ah - agility challenge makes more sense but still never heard of it.

do they get in an external sports provision provider? they might do it and as they do more than one school the school's name goes on it?
