if you have no concerns then I suppose see what the teacher says, hopefully they might show you some work and volunteer some info. Perhaps ask how he is settling in to Yr2, working within his group, happy with his classmates, confident etc.

I would ask how in line with expectations he is. And what the school does to stretch him.

Even if he is ok with homework there may be some areas he could improve on/do things differently to get go to the next level.

Watching with interest. I am trying to avoid just listening again to generic comments about my Year 2 DS such as "X tries his best, is very happy at school, has lots of friends" etc.

Great ideas thanks very much - i was pondering whether to ask or not - glad i did now! I always tend to leave not knowing any new information so i'll be using some of these

It might also be worth asking what his targets/next step or whatever they call them are. Ask him before you go if he knows what they are because I think they should know their own targets, my Yr2 daughter has been told the 2 things they want her to work on in literacy. Handy for you to know them so that if they are things you can reinforce at home with any homework tasks that they might apply to you can do that.

I am quite good at thinking up the questions but rarely actually ask them so still come out fairly clueless!

Hi retropops:

I have a few questions to avoid 'standard' all's lovely type meetings.

-Is there anything you feel we should be working on at home?

-DD1/2 has mentioned x at home - we're a little confused what that actually means?

-Do you mind if we use X educational on-line subscription at home for more than just the homework. So for instance DD2 loves the bugclub books - and likes the quizzes - so she's read tons on-line. School are happy with it - and the teacher is automatically notified if DD2 has been reading/ finished books. So can just add more.

-Are there any websites for practice on X (in our case maths - subtraction & multiplication) you might recommend?
