Ds is due to start primary school in september. I split up with his dad a few months ago and we moved in with my mum (I needed the support and didn't want to stay in 'our' house). When I moved my name went on mums council tax so I am registered as living there but I didn't change all the other paperwork (bank acccounts, drs, dentist etc) because I wasn't sure if it would be permanent or not. Now its looking like we will be staying here long term and I will be applying for a school place for ds to start reception soon. I would be applying for the same school whichever house we were living at. My mums house is slightly closer to the school but not by much (.5 of a mile) but I am worried that the admissions will check up the application and think I am trying to play the system because I haven't changed everything over and if I change it now will it look suspicious? I could really do without the stress Sad

It is unlikely the council will check anything beyond the council tax records unless they have reason to be suspicious. As long as you are being honest you shouldn't have anything to fear. If there are any questions you have a reasonable explanation as to why you didn't change these things immediately so you should be fine.

Council tax letter, child benefit and birth certificate were the only things we needed to send .

We had to send 2x utility bills at c tax. What paperwork you need will depend on what your LA ask for. You say your mums is only 0.5 nearer the school .,, but in our area the entire catchments are less than that!! In London they can be much smaller

Often they ask for just one proof of residence, so council tax record should suffice.

But you could save yourself some stress and change the addresses on things like your doctor (after all, if you ever qualified for that rare beast, a house call, you want them to turn up at the right house) and absolutely all your financial stuff (bank, CB etc) as you do not want a (possibly) STBX having access to that information.

Primary applications don't close until January. So you don't have to don't in a stressy hurry. But it would be worth getting key bits done soonish.
